Len Barcousky of the Post-Gazette has the details on Ross Township's hiring of 4 new police officers.

Commissioners voted to approve the 4 men last night in an effort to return the department back to its full complement of 43 officers.

Channel 11 has the details on the arrest and home raid carried out on Ross resident Richard Speciale, 48, president of the Pittsburgh chapter of the Pagan biker gang.  The arrest occurred near his Ross Township home.

Ross Park Mall crime on the rise? PDF Print E-mail

The PittsburghChannel ran a story about mall crime in the region.  In it, they cited some alarming trends, which include crimes at Ross Park Mall.

The number of thefts at South Hills Village was 330 -- a 167 percent increase from the period between 2004 and 2006. It was even worse at Ross Park Mall, where police reported 639 cases of theft -- a 255 percent increase.

"Tough times," Ross Township Police Sgt. Bill Barrett explained. "It's an easy crime, a crime of opportunity, and I think maybe sometimes people who wouldn't do that crime find themselves in an opportunity and they take it."

Port Authority Cops Nab Thieves at Park-and-Ride PDF Print E-mail

The PittsburghChannel.com is reporting that Port Authority police officers arrested two people who allegedly broke into and stole from several cars in a Ross Township park-and-ride lot. According to police, Port Authority officers were patrolling the lot on Perrysville Avenue when they noticed several cars with broken windows.

Dan Majors of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports today about the tremedous turnout for the viewing of fallen Penn Hills Officer Michael Crawshaw, which began yesterday at Schellhaas Funeral Home in West View.

"It's quite a tribute," Mr. Schellhaas said as police officers from throughout the region, emergency workers, friends, relatives and local residents filed into the funeral home.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. tomorrow at St. Boniface Catholic Church on East Street on the North Side.  Burial will follow at Christ Our Redeemer North Side Catholic Cemetery, Cemetery Lane, Ross.

Snyder Brothers' vandalism upped to 200 cars PDF Print E-mail

The PittsburghChannell.com ups the the count to 200 cars damaged by the Snyder Brothers in a spree of vandalism that spanned several North Hills communities early Thursday.

Police said Matthew Snyder, 25, and Scott Snyder, 24, of Bellevue, damaged at least 70 of the vehicles in West View, with others being vandalized in Ross Township, Avalon, Ben Avon and Bellevue at about 5:30 a.m.
